How to use Membership Questions

Learn how to use Membership Questions in MemberUp to gather valuable insights from applicants before they join. Set up custom questions to screen, understand, and engage members effectively.

Overview

Membership Questions help you learn more about potential members before granting access to your community. Whether you want to ensure alignment with your mission, gather contact details, or personalize onboarding — Membership Questions give you full control.

Admins can customize the questions new applicants must answer when requesting to join a community. Answers appear in your moderation dashboard for review before approval.

⚠️ This feature is only available when default pricing is set to Free. To use this feature, you’ll need to change your default pricing.


How to Set Up Membership Questions

1. Go to Community Settings

  • From your MemberUp main page, navigate to Settings → Power-Ups.

  • Click Edit next to Membership Questions.

2. Add a New Question

  • Turn on the toggle at the top to enable the feature.

  • Click Add Questions on the right side, type your question into the text area, and click Save.

3. Choose Your Response Type

Select your preferred Response Type:

  • Text Box – for open-ended answers

  • Email Address – to collect contact details

Enter your question text (for example: “What do you hope to gain from this community?”).

4. Reorder or Remove Questions

  • Drag and drop to reorder your questions.

  • Click the three dots on the right side of a question to remove it.

5. Save Your Changes

  • Click Save to update your Membership Questions.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

I can’t find Membership Questions in my settings.

Ensure you have Owner or Admin permissions and that your community is using the Free default pricing option.

Why can’t I enable Membership Questions?

Membership Questions are only available when your default pricing is set to Free. Update your default pricing in Settings → Pricing to activate this feature.

Do members see these questions before joining?

Yes, the questions appear during the join request or application process before membership approval.
