MemberUp has a direct integration with the payment processor Stripe which will allow you to securely collect payments from members online using all major credit cards.

Connecting a new Stripe account

1. Email

When you click Connect with Stripe, the first step is to provide your email address. We suggest using an active business email that is checked regularly so that you don't miss any updates from Stripe.

2. Password

In the second step, create a password for your new account and click Continue.

3. 2-step account verification

Stripe will prompt you to add your mobile number to secure your account with 2-step verification.

4. Emergency backup code

Once your mobile number is verified, you will be presented with a page that provides you an emergency backup code that you should save somewhere safe for the future.

5. Business location

On this page, you are required to provide a business location and type for your account.

6. Verify your personal details

Add your personal details on this page to verify your identity with Stripe.

7. Professional details

Add your industry, website, and description of the products or services that you will be selling on MemberUp. Stripe needs to understand what you sell, so explain this clearly.

🚨 Important: If your community is private, we suggest providing a different public URL as your website within Stripe, otherwise validation may fail. As an alternative, you can input the URL for your business’ public social media acct.

If you have neither, click here to read their recommendation.

8. Bank details

The next step is to add your bank details to set up payouts for your account. Stripe will transfer the funds you receive from member payments to the bank account you set up.

9. Public details

Add a statement descriptor and customer support contact on this step that will show up on your member’s bank or credit card statements.

10. Review details

This is the final step of the connection process. Review all your details and, if required, make changes to the details by clicking ✏️ beside the section to update it.

Once reviewed, click Agree & Submit to complete the process. You can now start creating payment options in your community! 🎉

Connecting an existing Stripe account

🚨 Important: please read below when connecting an existing Stripe account

If you already have an account with Stripe for any other purposes that you would like to connect for payments, Stripe requires you to create a new business under your existing account.

Under new Stripe regulations as of July 2021, Stripe’s requirement to only allow connecting one platform per business ensures that each platform’s activity and integration are kept separate.

As a result, during the Stripe onboarding in MemberUp, we'll create a new business for you in your Stripe account regardless of which business you select from your existing account at the beginning.

The benefit of creating a new business under your existing Stripe account is you'll have one Stripe login and can easily switch back and forth between your different businesses without having to log in and out. This also allows for more accurate payment analytics.

To create a new business under your existing Stripe account, follow the steps below:

1. Email

If you would like to connect the new business under an existing Stripe account, please enter the email associated with that Stripe account in the first step of the connection process.

2. Log in to your account

Stripe will recognize your account email and prompt you to log in and verify your account with 2-step authentication.

3. Use saved information

Once you are successfully logged in, you will be presented with an option to either use the saved information from other businesses under your existing account or create a business with new information.

From the given options, if you choose:

  1. Existing business: Stripe will use the saved information from your existing business to create a new account for you. It includes information from existing business like:

    • Personal details

    • Professional details

    • Bank details

    • Public details

  2. Create a new business: Stripe will prompt you with step 4 to step 9 as described in Connecting a brand new Stripe account section in this guide to provide all the information for the new business.

💡 Tip: If you choose to use saved info from the existing business, and would like to change any detail for this new business, you will be able to update it on Review details step (Step 4) as mentioned below.

4. Review details

This is the final step of the connection process. Review all your details and, if required, make changes to the details by clicking ✏️ beside the section to update it.

Once reviewed, click Agree & Submit to complete the process. You can now start creating payment options in your community! 🎉
